The best robot vacuum for pet hair

Updated

For a home with a shedding pet, we'd pick the roborock Q10 S5+. It empties itself into a 2.7 liter bag, its owners say it picks up dog hair well, and its listing names anti-tangle brushes. The reason is simple. Pet hair fills a small bin fast, so the dock matters more than the Pa number.

How fast pet hair fills a robot

Our estimate doubles the debris for one shedding pet and triples it for two or more. Here is what that does to a 0.6 liter robot bin, the size on the eufy 11S MAX, in a 1,500 sq ft home with mixed floors.

With one pet you would empty that bin about every 4 runs. The same home with a 2.7 liter dock bag goes about 18 days of daily runs between bag changes. Put in your own home in the emptying calculator.

The picks that fit

We would skip a robot with no dock for two or more shedding pets unless you are happy to empty it every 2 to 3 runs.

What no dock does for you

Hair still wraps around brushes, side brushes and wheels. iRobot's care chart for its older Roomba series says to clean the brushes and the filter once a week, and twice a week in homes with pets. We'd plan on the same habit with any brand. A self-empty dock saves you the bin. It does not save you the brush.

Robots also do not know what is on the floor ahead of them unless the listing says so. If your pet has accidents indoors, check the floor before a scheduled run.

Compare all five in the roundup.
